We're celebrating Autumn with Apples
Autumn is here, and that means apples. Red, Green, Pink, Yellow; at Ripe we're proud to have a great selection of Organic apples, with old fashioned Heritage varieties and modern favourites. This great diversity means that getting to know our varieties is a delicious challenge, as each cultivar has its own unique flavour and quality.
We've decided to have a special apple day at the markets, so you can try some of our best apples for yourself, and pick up some recipe ideas as well. On Saturday May 5, we hope you'll drop in to the markets or our store at Albert Park, and maybe find yourself a new favourite apple. (read more)
Autumn also means some seasonal favourites are back on our fruit and vegetable displays, with Jerusalem Artichokes, Chestnuts and Parsnips all back instore this week. As the weather gets cooler, we tend to want warming foods, such as roasted veges and slow cooked soups and stews with whole grains. Eating more of these foods as the weather changes can be very grounding, and nourishing as we draw energy inwards, as does the earth. The first of the mandarins are here now, with more varieties and stronger supply just around the corner.
Ginger is fantastic at this time of year, as it has just been harvested. Naturally, it is good for warming the body and for strengthening the immune system. Pears are wonderful this year, and are a good fruit to enjoy in Autumn, either raw or cooked. Kellie has given us a delicious recipe for baked pears with cranberries, which she first made last year whilst in New York. Click here to read recipe.
A note for your diary; on May 21 and 22, Sun Hyland will be in store at Ripe in Albert Park, with a cooking demonstration focusing on whole grains. Click here to read more.
