Summer White Wines from Rock Ferry

Rock Ferry Sauvignon BlancThis week we are profiling some delicious white wines, just in time for special holiday meals.

The wines of Rock Ferry embody the stunning landscape of the Marlborough region, (top of the South Island in New Zealand), with wine maker Tom Hutchinson using a single vineyard concept to create wines with distinctive flavours from organically grown grapes. From the vineyard in the Wairau valley, we bring you a Pinot Gris, a Reisling and a Sauvignon Blanc.

The Sauvignon Blanc is very smooth and suprisingly soft on the palate with a creamy texture and classic vibrant gooseberry aromas. The grapes for the Rock Ferry Sauvignon Blanc are picked in 2 lots with the majority being hand harvested. Fermentation is completed in separate parcels with the hand harvested fruit fermented using cultured & indigenous yeasts and maturation in old oak casks.  The machine-harvested lot is de-stemmed, crushed and pressed with fermentation using 100% cultured yeasts. The final wine is then blended prior to bottling.

The Reisling is a full bodied wine, with lime blossom aromas backed with subtle spice.  The concentrated palate of citrus is balanced and not overly sweet, overall a vibrant delicious wine! This Reisling is fermented in old oak barrels cultured and indigenous yeasts.  The wine is then retained on ferment lees for maturation in barrel.

The Grapes for Rock Ferry Pinot Gris are whole bunch pressed, and matured in old oak barrels. With aromas of pears and quince, this dry style pinot has a richly textured palate with aromatic spice characters.
