Kiwi Spirulina Smoothie

This is a popular drink in New Zealand, it is available in all the cafes and juice bars and is a great energy booster. Spirulina is a sea vegetable or algae that has a huge amount of vitamins and minerals, and is sold in powder form.

  • 2 ripe green kiwi fruits
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 t spirulina powder
  • Organic Apple or Orange Juice

Peel the kiwis and banana and place in a blender. Add the spirulina powder then cover with the apple or orange juice. Blend until all ingredients are smooth, (add more juice if it is too thick) then pour into a tall glass with ice. Serve with a straw to avoid a green moustache.

Notes

If you are not a fan of bananas, like me, you can use other ripe fruits such as peaches, nectarines, strawberries or just add leave it out. In summer, you can use frozen fruits to make the drink really thick and cool, just make sure that your blender can handle fruit straight from the freezer, as it can be rock hard.
