Coeliac Awareness Week
This Week (March 13 - 20, 2008), is Coeliac Awareness Week.
Many people ask about Gluten Free Products at Ripe, so we've taken this opportunity to explain some of the basics. People who suffer from Coeliac disease must be extremely vigilant to ensure that they avoid Gluten, which is present in Wheat, Rye, Barley and Oats. There are many varied and nutritious grains and ingredients that are gluten free, such as quinoa, amaranth, millet and buckwheat. Click here to read more about Coeliac Disease and Gluten Free Foods.
Many other people have an allergy or an intolerance for Wheat, but have no problem with other foods that contain gluten. There are many alternatives here, with Spelt and Kamut being great alternatives as these grains are highly nutritious and have slightly lower gluten content than wheat, and are easier to digest. These grains may be added to the list of Gluten Free Ingredients for those who wish to avoid wheat, but are not completely gluten intolerant.
We also have an ever growing collection of Organic, Gluten Free Recipes, which are simple to prepare but tasty and nutritious. Click here to browse the Gluten Free Collection.
